“Other Skills”: A Working Musician’s Toolkit, presented by Ventus Machina (ventusmachina.com)

Members of the highly successful woodwind quintet Ventus Machina take participants on a tour of the many skills they have developed and continue to hone to survive and thrive as performers and teachers, beyond what they learned in the classrooms and practice rooms. Filled with personal experiences and practical ideas for application, this session will touch on subjects such as funding agencies, recording, grant writing, website development, public relations, marketing, and more.

Awards

The $5,000 NRS Foundation Grand Award will be chosen from the first-place Emerging Artist Stream winners in each of eight disciplines - vocal, piano, strings, classical guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and musical theatre.

Emerging Artist Stream - 1st and 2nd Place awards in vocal, piano, strings, classical guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and musical theatre - $2,000 and $1,500, respectively.

Developing Artist Stream - 1st and 2nd Place awards in vocal, piano, strings, classical guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and musical theatre - $500 and $250, respectively.

Recorded Stream
1st Place Chamber Ensemble award in junior, intermediate, and advanced classes - $500
1st Place Choral award in 7 classes for Canada's school and community choirs - $500
1st Place Band and Orchestra award in 8 classes for Canada's school and community instrumental ensembles - $500
